Sound Sculptures
Ceramic Sculptures
This series of objects was born from the research and learning of archaeological pieces that contained sound systems such as whistles, flutes, and hydraulic instruments found in Central and South America. My research seeks to understand these objects and study their sounds and mechanisms in order to propose pieces that, from my own response and perception, can be born from the sounds that our ancestors left us thousands of years ago as witnesses to their time, interrelation with species, and worldviews.

This piece is inspired by the sculpture of Colombian artist Rómulo Rozo—the first academically trained artist to address indigenismo and his own Muisca indigenous roots in 1926, at a time when art was predominantly Eurocentric. It incorporates the technology of whistles found in South America; two whistles are concealed within its body, and when sounded together, they produce a combined tone known as "beating" "batimento".
